Supporting seminarians

The training of local clergy is one of the priorities of the Church’s missionary action.
This conviction requires supporting the theological and philosophical studies of seminarians, contributing to the construction and maintenance of seminaries in poor dioceses; to the daily sustenance of seminarians and the salaries of professors and house staff.
It is the Pontifical Work of St. Peter the Apostle (POSPA, one of the four universal works), which takes care of this aspect of the Church’s mission, proposing the spiritual and financial adoption of a seminarian from the Global South.

Mass intentions

To have a mass celebrated for the dead, or for a particular intention, it is not magic, nor is it a way to ‘buy’ something good.
It is a sign of faith. A gesture to live intensely, precisely in faith, communion with one’s dead. A gesture to learn to offer, in requests and thanksgiving, one’s availability to the Lord through solidarity.
The offering entrusted to the missionary is for the support of his missionary commitment. A way to participate in the mission, to share what we have and are with those who are poorer.

How?

A Eucharistic celebration

An offering, left to the discretion of the offerer, is possible, although the diocesan indication is €13.00 for a Eucharistic celebration. The Diocesan Mission Centre entrusts a missionary (with attention to those most in need) with the celebration of the Holy Mass according to the offerer’s intention. It should be reiterated that Holy Masses can be celebrated for the deceased as well as for the living.

Gregorian Masses

It is possible to celebrate Gregorian Masses consisting of 30 Holy Masses celebrated in a month in suffrage of one or more deceased persons. This particular form of celebration is a privilege granted to the church at the time of Pope Gregory the Great. The indication for the offering is €400.00. In this case too, the Diocesan Mission Centre issues the benefactor with a certificate of registration.
